Olympic Artwork

Screenshot 2016-09-22 at 9.55.30 AM.png

The border is the olympic vocabulary, bronze, silver, gold, olympics, Rio, friendship and respect, and we used the year, 2016.  With the words I coloured them in the olympic rings, red, yellow, black, blue and green.  It also has a nice shaded bright green.

The main thing is the tessellation.  A tessellation is a repeating pattern that can’t overlap.  We measured up a triangle with sides that were 3.8cm long.  I was also able to make a hexagon and diamond out of the shape.  The colours are bright blue, hot red and dark green.  This was the thing that I liked doing for this artwork.

And my face.  My teacher (Ms Hills) took a photo of my beautiful face.  After that I had to go on the internet and find any athlete who was participating in the Olympics.  My best friend (Javahn) had like the same person, and when we saw each others we started to laugh together.  I had to stick on my head onto the body and we stick the body on the tessellation.

Oh, and the similes and metaphors.  Can you guess which ones are the smiles and what ones are the metaphors?  Just so you remember a smile is describe something using like or as and a metaphor is a person, place, animal or thing something else (not just like it!).

Hong Kong STEM Challenge

Screenshot 2016-09-06 at 2.13.24 PM.png

Materials we had access to:

6 x long sticks
1 x wooden square
2 x pipe cleaners
2 x straws
1 x 1m ruler
11 x plastic cubes
1 x bunch of popsicle sticks
4 x wooden small flat pieces

 Screenshot 2016-09-06 at 2.13.53 PM.png
Challenge #1
Build a structure with a cube as the base:

In challenge 1 was quite hard because we had to have steady hands or we would knock it over and we would have to rebuild it.

Screenshot 2016-09-06 at 2.14.56 PM.png

Challenge #2
Build the tallest structure that you can and your base can be any size:

Challenge #2 was two was easier than challenge 1 because we got to use any bottom base and make the tallest building.  But the building would always fall over so I will get angry at it.

Screenshot 2016-09-06 at 2.15.30 PM.png

Challenge #3
Build a structure with something that balances off the side of it:

Challenge 3 was really easy because we were building it a little safe.  It didn’t turn out that impressive but it still to us was the best thing we have ever sore.

Moment In Time Week 7

Today our teacher asked us to write a ‘Moment In Time’ piece using a picture of a boy in the water.  We planned as a class to make sure we had the 5 W’s and the 6 Senses.

Before we began our writing in small groups we discussed the importance of using descriptive writing, using similes and metaphors where appropriate, using dialogue and have done our best to make sure our punctuation is correct.  Some of us have even used ‘Show Don’t Tell’ in our writing to provide our reader with more of an experience.

Our teacher gave us 10 minutes for each paragraph and then 10 minutes for editing at the end.  We had so much fun working together!

If you have a moment, we would love you to comment on our writing.

Boy Overboard!

As Jack was fishing he caught a fish but it was to powerful for him so the fish pulled him into the sea.  The person that was driving the boat didn’t see Jack so he took of.  SPLASH!  Jack could smell diesel coming from the boat getting further and further.  Jack was panicking because he could see sharks crowding him, he was screaming for help “HELP HELP!

Jack was becoming one with the water.  As he was drowning he saw all kind of different fish looking at him.  He was even more terrified when he saw a whole group of piranhas.  The sharks was coming closer and closer to Jack.  So Jack tried to to swim but he couldn’t swim because he doesn’t like the water, so he passed out. He was thinking that he was going to die.

Out of nowhere a megalodon had rushed to Jack and taken a bite out of his arm.  “AHHHHHHHH”! Shouted Jack.  Jack could see the blood coming out from his arm.  “PLEASE LORD PLEASE HELP ME”! Jack screamed while drowning.  There was a light coming from the sky.  going towards the boy.

What we done well was working as a team and talking as a team

Darnell
What I think I did well was help Kaleb and Patrick make some sentences.

Kaleb:
The thing that I did well was when I was talking to my buddy when we were writing.

Moment In Time Week 6.

The Day Bob had a fight.

One day, Bob got a coffee at the WWE arena.  Joseph Parker went over to Bob and said “haha your a nerd getting a coffee haha.”  so then bob purposely thorold the coffee at Joseph Parker.  Bob started laughing at Joseph so Joseph said “hey, you me here at 8:00 pm tonight to have a fight.”  So then it was going to happen in one hour.

Joseph had got 10 billion people to watch the fight against Bob and Joseph.  One hour later they were on the area going to fight on.  Bob was running around the area like a car doing donuts.  And Joseph Parker was chasing him like a cop.  So then Joseph stopped running and went the other way to make Bob go to sleep.  And Bob did go to sleep and that meant Joseph Had won the fight.  The 10 million people said “Joseph you are the man.”  So Bob tried to go home but Joseph put him in a room that was like his living room.

The police heard about Bob so they rushed to the WWE area.  The police were the flash.  The cops said to Joseph “Joseph you are under arrest for not letting Bob go and the fight with you and Bob as well.”  So before Joseph went to the police he had to let Bob go out of the room.  Bob said to the police officer “thanks for getting me out of this.”  And the police officer said back “no thank you for making my day fun.” And they both started laughing together. And everything was back to normal.  And Bob was as happy as a dog with four tails.

But was it the end?  Joseph parker escaped from jail and was going to hunt down Bob. teh

Just so you know I had to do all of this before writing it.

Matariki Refletion

Matariki is a time for reflection.  Yesterday with Whaea Toni we took the time to reflect on our year and set a new goal.  Here is the goal I set:  To be faster at running this year.

File_000.jpeg
Screenshot 2016-07-01 at 11.56.33 AM.png

We made a Matariki star.  We used our algebraic thinking.  We had a pattern to follow:

1,2 and down

1 and up.

We repeated this pattern until we got a star.

Matariki Celebration

            IMG_0919.JPG

Matariki is the māori new year. Matariki comes out last week of May and first week of June.  Matariki is seven stars of sisters. Matariki are the hottest stars in the world because they are blue.  And matariki is called different names, Makali’i, Subaru and many more that I don’t know.

When Matariki comes out they have celebrations, they fly manus (kites), they do same songs, the pukaner challenge, they have a hangi and they play knucklebones. When they do all of that they all had done it together, and that means everyone are friends.

In that photo there is me, a manu tukutuku and my buddy maria.  We used toetoe, raupō, a black piece of paper, and wool.  I had did a white side of the weaving, I did the drawing on the black paper.  When we got the toetoe we went out of school and went for a walk to cut the toetoe.  But we did a karakara before we cut it for respect for the toetoe because it leaving its family and so we show tikanga (why we do what we do0 .  Miss Hills (my teacher) got the raupō and the black paper on a on  the weekend, and we got the wool from another teacher.

When I’m working with someone I think I need to work on talking to my buddy so I don’t get angry.  The thing that I'm good when I’m working with a buddy is  talking with my buddy so we know who is going to do.  I know people would make the kites different or make it with different things but it would be hard to weave with harakeke and it will be to hard to weave where that black paper is.

Opera show

Jax’s fish ‘n’ chips.

Purpose:  Thank you note.

Dear: Jax

Thank you for coming to Rangikura school and sharing that opera show.

My most favorite part was when Nemo (the fish ‘n’ chip guy) had drink the love potion (L&P) and then he looked better.  I also liked it when the Famous guy walked down the middle and everyone was yelling crazy for him.

Can you please come back and do another opera show.

Yours sincerely
Kaleb.

We are learning about idioms!

IDIOMS

Idioms for kids are word combinations that kids use which have a different meaning than the literal meanings of each word.

http://examples.yourdictionary.com/idioms-for-kids.htmlhttp://examples.yourdictionary.com/idioms-for-kids.html

This is idioms that I got from teachers and a book:

Man that cost a arm and a leg. (That cost a lot of money.)

Don't be a pain in the neck. (Your annoying.)

That girl is on fire. (Shes rocking it.)

I'll keep an eye on you. (I will watch you, so I won't lose you.)

Heart to heart talk. (A happy talk.)

On her first day of school she had butterflies in her stomach, I think I have them too. (I am sacred.)

It raining cats and dogs! (Cats and dogs are raining.)

On my first day of school, my mother said I got up on the wrong side of bed. (He was not sleeping on his bed.)

So I wouldn't bottle up my feelings.( So you won't bully me again.)

You are faster than a gun bullet. (You are rally fast.)

As I left the house, dad told me to put my best foot up. (Have a good day.)

Then she told me to hurry up because we'd be in a real pickle if we missed the bus. (We will be late for school and mum and dad will be anger.

And then he said he was all ears whenever I was ready to come out of my shell. (He has to guard him to hear for anyone.)
